I saw Beyond Skin ad on Facebook a few times and as I needed new summer shoes I finally made my first purchase with them. My parcel came in two days in beautiful recycled hot pink box, wrapped in delicate pink tissue paper – recycled as well. When I buy shoes on the internet I’m usually concerned about the size. This time there was no problem, ordering my regular size turned out to be perfect hit.
Founders of Beyond Skin came up with the idea in 2001. They were motivated by similar reasons to why I started this blog – it’s not easy to find stylish vegan things.
The first pair of shoes was manufactured in 2003. They wanted to produce locally to limit carbon footprint. Indeed, initially shoes were produced in north London. Now the are manufactured in Alicante in Spain and the company’s main office is located in Brighton. However, they still care about reducing their carbon footprint and seek to source all materials as close to the factory as possible.
Beyond Skin became known to wider public when Natalie Portman wore their shoes at Golden Globes, Oscars and then in her film “V for Vendetta”. The brand got recognition of Vogue, Elle, Grazia. Their collections have won numerous fashion awards: Drapers, Grazia, as well as organisations animal rights and animal welfare oranisations: RSPCA, PETA Proggy, Footwear & Friends Vegan Society.
